Rivane Neuenschwander 'The Name of Fear', Whitechapel Gallery

The Whitechapel Gallery's Children's Commission is always a display I look forward to seeing when I visit. The Children's Commission project invites an artist to create work for the space in collaboration with local children, using workshops and events to explore children's ideas and engage them with art. Rivane Neuenschwander's 'The Name of Fear', is my favourite commission so far. Developed with children aged seven to nine across London, Neuenschwander explored children's fears, collecting their greatest - and used them to create decorative capes. What I love about this is the reworking of fears into a garment which is symbolically protective and even heroic (the classic superhero get-up); but also something which can be easily cast off. The resulting pieces are vibrant, varied and great fun to look at.

FIND 'THE NAME OF FEAR' AT: The Whitechapel Gallery, 77-82 Whitechapel High Street, Whitechapel, London E1 7QX (until 18th October)
