Thought 3D printing was cool? Now look at this. This has been doing the rounds on a fair few blogs now but I couldn't not share it. Instead of printing layer upon layer of two dimensional material, Mataerial uses a thermosetting polymer which effectively comes out of the robot nozzle as a solid extrusion, meaning it can produce 'anti gravity' sculptures without need for support and printing can be done on any surface regardless of texture. Colour changes can even be programmed, resulting in products like those in the second video. These robots have so many possibilities within the realms of art and design, truly a massively exciting development for printing technology (and utterly mesmerising to watch!).
